Highlights from last week’s 2008 GHSA Boys and Girls Basketball Championships as well as the AAASP Wheelchair Basketball Championship. Congratulations to:

  • Class A Champions: Calvary Day Girls – Hancock Central Boys
  • Class AA Champions: Wesleyan Girls and Boys
  • Class AAA Champions: Kendrick Girls – Glenn Hills Boys
  • Class AAAA Champions: SW DeKalb Girls – Columbia Boys
  • Class AAAAA Champions: Stephenson Girls – Norcross Boys
  • AAASP Champion: Atlanta Wolfpack


After finishing in 6th place at state in 2006, the Luella High Riflery team leaped forward finishing 3rd in 2007. The Lions are a young and talented group with senior and team captain Kyle Phillips leading the way.

ATLANTA“A Georgia Great”

Marist School senior Kathleen Hersey completed her career with 13 state titles and is arguably the best high school swimmer in Georgia history. Hersey won 4 gold medals at the Pan American games, is ranked 6th in the world in the 200M Butterfly and has a very good chance at making the U.S. Olympic team.

KENNESAW“The Mountain Top Café”

We take an early morning trip to Kennesaw Mountain High for a look at the student created Mountain Top Café, a coffee shop operated by exceptional education students. Open daily from 8:00 to 10:00 AM. the café sells cappuccino, coffee and other hot beverages to faculty, staff and students.


Rockdale County High junior Ansley Mitcham is a varsity cheerleader for the Bulldogs and carries an amazing 4.167 GPA. We recognize Ansley Mitcham as this week’s “Academic Athlete of the Week.”
