The blueberry has become a major fruit crop in Georgia in recent years, producing successful yields in the southern region’s warm climate. In fact, due to Georgia’s weather conditions, our blueberry harvest is the longest in the nation with roughly ninety days of harvest. In 2012, projections placed Georgia as the second largest producer of blueberries in the nation. Not bad for such a small berry! Low in calories and high in antioxidants, these berries can be enjoyed long after the harvest because they are easily frozen, canned or dried.
