If you’re away from loved ones over Thanksgiving, have to work the holiday, or just want to avoid family drama, Friendsgiving may be right for you. This emerging tradition brings buddies together for a Thanksgiving feast sometime during the holiday week. GPB reporter Sam Whitehead recently chowed down at a Friendsgiving for and got an insiders’ perspective on the holiday trend. And Black Friday might as well be called Black Thursday since so many retailers open Thanksgiving evening. Host Celeste Headlee talks to NPR One’s Roben Farzad and Emory University’s Doug Bowman about the appeal of an extended Black Friday to retailers and consumers. Plus, an update on Inman Park’s Squirrel Census!

Then, the farm-to-table movement has taken off in the United States. There are over 40,000 farms in Georgia, so we wondered what’s growing in the state over the winter and what we can make with those crops? Host Celeste Headlee talks with James Beard award-winning chef Nathalie Dupree, author of “Mastering the Art of Southern Cooking.” Plus, we add two more tunes to our Georgia Playlist courtesy of NPR producer and Georgia native Lars Gotrich.

And a lot of the processed food we eat today started off as food for soldiers. The Army has a long history of culinary innovation that’s trickled down to our homes. Host Celeste Headlee looks at the origins of what we eat with food writer Anastacia Marx de Salcedo and Georgia farmer Matthew Raiford, who's also an Army veteran.
