Georgia Public Broadcasting is proud to announce that GPB Radio reporter Emily Kopp has been named 2006 Journalist of the Year in the category of Radio Reporting by the Atlanta Press Club.
Kopp received the award during the Atlanta Press Club's Annual Gala, held last week. Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather served as keynote speaker with approximately 375 people in attendance. This year's entries for Journalist of the Year awards were judged by board and committee members of the Atlanta Press Club. The organization boasts over 800 members, including journalists from the print, broadcast and online communities, and it is one of the largest and most dynamic press clubs in the country.
In her role as a general assignment reporter for GPB Radio, the 16-station statewide public radio network of Georgia Public Broadcasting, Kopp specializes in Georgia politics and covers the General Assembly. Among the issues she covered in the past year are the strengthening of Republican power in Georgia, immigration, Bible classes in schools and the now notoriously bitter election for a seat on the state supreme court.
In addition to her work for GPB Radio's newscasts, Kopp also regularly contributes to public radio programs including NPR's Morning Edition and All Things Considered, as well as American Public Media's Marketplace.
