Zoo Atlanta officials say they're celebrating the birth of the zoo's first-ever eastern black rhinoceros calf. Zoo spokeswoman Keisha Hines says 7-year-old Andazi gave birth to the first eastern black rhino to be born in Zoo Atlanta's 124-year history on Saturday.
Zoo Atlanta officials say an 8-year-old golden lion tamarin has given birth to a newborn. Zoo spokeswoman Keisha Hines says Robin gave birth to a set of triplet tamarins July 27, but two didn't survive. Animal Management and Veterinary officials say the surviving newborn appears to be thriving and is being closely monitored.
Zoo officials say a 6-year-old eastern black rhinoceros at Atlanta's zoo is pregnant. Zoo Atlanta said in a statement that Andazi has entered her birth window, which began Tuesday and runs through late November. Zoo officials say it's most likely she'll give birth in August or September.
A spokeswoman for Zoo Atlanta says a giant panda named Lun Lun has given birth to twins. Keisha Hines said Lun Lun went into labor Monday afternoon and gave birth at 6:21 p.m. EDT, surprising zookeepers with the first twins born at Zoo Atlanta.
