A wood pellet manufacturing company is building a $114 million plant on the Wilkinson-Jones County line in Gordon. Development Authority of Wilkinson County Director Jonathan Jackson announced the development earlier this week.

The Georgia Department of Transportation last week signed a contract to build the last nine-or-so miles of the Fall Line Freeway. Communities along the route are hopeful better access via the four-lane highway will mean new growth and new companies come to their areas.

Georgia Ports Authority has signed an agreement with a Canadian firm to upgrade the Port of Brunswick. The Logistec Corporation will spend $5 million to deepen container berths and improve the facility that handles wood pellets. Ports spokesman Robert Morris says, the Brunswick port is close to customers making and exporting wood pellets from the heart of Georgia's timber land.
