Just like that, the season is over for the Atlanta Braves. Wednesday night, on the final day of baseball's regular season, the Braves lost 4-3 in 13 innings to the Philidelphia Phillies in Atlanta. That gave the St. Louis Cardinals the National League Wild Card playoff spot--by virtue of their win over the Houston Astros.
Wednesday is major league baseball's final day of the regular season, and the Atlanta Braves have fallen into a tie for the National League Wild Card playoff spot. Should the Braves and Cardinals both win, or both lose their respective games Wednesday, a one game playoff will be held Thursday in St. Louis to determine the Wild Card winner. However, if one wins today while the other loses, the winner earns the wild card outright.
If the Atlanta Braves are to make a second straight playoff appearance, they'll have to do something over the next three nights they haven't done a lot of lately -- win. With three regular season games left, the Braves' lead for the National League's wild card playoff spot is down to one game over St. Louis.
The Atlanta Braves are back into the postseason for the first time since 2005. The team's 8-7 win over Philidelphia Sunday, coupled with San Diego's 3-0 defeat at San Francisco, earned the Braves the National League wild card berth.
