Georgia's Republicans in the U.S. House voted against a last-minute deal to avoid the "fiscal cliff" after the state's two senators voted for it. All eight of Georgia's Republicans voted against the bill in the House late Tuesday.

A House subcommittee passed a measure Monday on voter identification. The bill would allow students who attend private universities in Georgia to use their student IDs to vote. Public university students have been able to use their student I-Ds to vote since 2005.

The Rome City Commission has deferred until next year a vote on Sunday alcohol retail sales. The commission had planned to put the issue on the Nov. 8 ballot, but decided Monday night to hold off because there's no other reason to hold an election that day in the northwest Georgia city. A tally by the Georgia Food Industry Association finds nearly 100 cities and counties throughout the state are set to hold Sunday sales referendums during the November general election later this year.

A flight attendants' union on Wednesday lost its all-or-nothing fight to cover those workers at Delta Air Lines Inc. The results showed almost 48 percent of Delta flight attendants voted in favor of joining the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA. They needed a majority.
