    With just months left until the men's NCAA Final Four begins in Atlanta, local organizers are looking for about 1,000 people to fill volunteer positions. Local organizing committee Director Sharon Goldmacher said Thursday that volunteers are needed all over Atlanta to serve as ambassadors at the airport, in downtown hotels, near the Georgia Dome and in the downtown area.

    More than 100 volunteers are preparing to plant trees in Ringgold to replace those ripped apart during an April 27 tornado. Organizers say 300 to 400 trees will be planted Thursday and Friday in the northwest Georgia town.

    Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Georgia Inc., which has matched children to mentors in more than 40 south Georgia counties, has announced that it will close. Board President James Nixon said in a statement that the agency has been unable to meet financial commitment to providing ongoing volunteer recruiting, careful matching of mentors and mentoring support.
