A bill that would renew a tax paid to hospitals to cover the cost of Medicaid sailed through the state House Friday. The bill heads to Gov. Nathan Deal for his signature, even though some say lawmakers are dodging tough issues by transferring taxing authority to a state agency.
Ossabaw Island matriarch Sandy West is 100 Thursday. In 1978, West and her family sold their private playground, Georgia's third-largest barrier island, into the state's protection. West came from a priviledged family but told GPB that she never regretted spending her inheritance on the Ossabaw Island project.
A bill that would allow the elderly to remain in assisted living centers will head to Governor Nathan Deal for this signature. Under current Georgia law, seniors are sometimes moved to nursing homes unwillingly when they are no longer mobile or can’t take their medications.
