Some of Georgia’s physician assistants are actually telling their patients to take a hike – and giving them a free pass to one of Georgia’s state parks to do it. The PAs actually writes a prescription that waives the $5 per car parking fee at any of the state’s parks, recreation areas or historic sites so patients can get exercise and lose weight.
Authorities say construction on what will be Georgia's newest state park at Lake Lanier has been delayed. Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials tell The Times of Gainesville that construction on Don Carter State Park may not begin until 2012. Construction was originally set to begin in November and end in spring 2013.
The state Department of Natural Resources is preparing to build its first park at Lake Lanier. DNR officials say the 1,040-acre Don Carter State Park will serve the less-developed northeastern part of Lake Lanier, offering camping, swimming and other outdoor activities.
