But while serving under a commander that stressed the importance of working in the community, Howard saw an opportunity to get back to the game that he had played up to the college level and still loved.

Stephenson rose to No. 3 while Brookwood lept to No. 4.

Saturday's state volleyball finals plan to give high school sports fans plenty of excitement. In Class 5A, Walton looks to get back in the winner's circle for the first time since 2002, when the Raiders won the last of five consecutive state titles. They will be opposed by Northview, who won state gold in 2007 and 2008.
Allatoona High School is Cobb County’s newest high school. Opened in the fall of 2008 and nicknamed the Buccaneers, Allatoona has had only one coach in its short history: Gary Varner. The head coaching job at Allatoona was his first-ever head coaching job, which makes Varner’s head coaching experience just as limited as his program’s.
