Kennesaw State University’s monthly index on Georgia manufacturing activity fell slightly in March after two blockbuster months of growth. Intuit Payroll’s latest index shows another month of slight increases in the state’s small business employment. And unemployment keeps inching down. Economists say it all indicates a recovery. Just a slow one.

Gov. Nathan Deal says Georgia says the state has formed a partnership with Google to bring free websites to small businesses. Deal announced the new program Monday. Small agricultural businesses in Georgia and the South can get money to help sell their products abroad through a program with the Southern U.S. Trade Association. The group began accepting applications in August for federal money that will pay up to half of companies’ marketing costs to expand their exports.

Georgia leads the nation in the growth of women-owned businsses. That's the conclusion of a new report commissioned by American Express, looking at the past 14 years. The study uses Census data and figures Georgia has nearly 300,000 women-owned businesses, or 97% more than in 1997.

The Census Bureau reports that the number of black-owned businesses in Georgia doubled between 2002 and 2007. Georgia is second only to New York in the number of businesses run by African-Americans.
