Savannah Training Center Targets Gulfstream
Savannah Technical College is serving one of the coastal area's largest employers with a new aviation training center. State and local officials were on hand this week to open a nearly $7 million classroom, hangar and lab facility. It will train graduates to work at jet manufacturer Gulfstream Aerospace.

A new report from the US Transportation Department doesn't come as a surprise to Savannah-area travelers who drive to Jacksonville or Charleston to fly cheaply. The $652 port expansion has languished because Congress and the White House haven't yet budgeted the bulk of the federal project's cost. Savannah Official Takes Permanent Job
Members of Savannah's City Council are making permanent a temporary choice they made last year about one of the city's most powerful positions. The council selected interim city manager Stephanie Cutter to run the city government permanently. Cutter has guided the city through a series of minor crises and garnered praise from business leaders.

Savannah economic development officials are focusing attention on 10 countries that they say have the biggest potential for increasing business with the coastal city. The non-profit World Trade Center in Savannah recently identified large trading partners such as Canada, the UK, Germany and Brazil as targets for growth.

A machine company has announced plans for an expansion of its Savannah facility that is expected to add up to 200 jobs. Company officials said the firm will expand its existing Savannah facility by 20,000 square feet.

Israeli Business Looks To Savannah
Israeli business leaders are in Savannah through Tuesday on a trade mission. But it's also part of a larger international push in the coastal city. Last year Savannah's Economic Development Authority formed a World Trade Center in Savannah. And other local officials created an International Alliance. Both are aimed squarely at boosting trade around the world.

The soundstage would compliment existing studios and be large enough to attract the type of digitial media projects that often bypass Savannah. City officials say, the film, TV digital media industry last year had a nearly $10 million economic impact in Savannah.

World Trade Center Coming To Savannah
Savannah soon could become a World Trade Center designated city. Savannah's Economic Development Authority voted Tuesday to apply for affilation in the World Trade Center Association. SEDA Director Steve Weathers says, the $200,000 one-time membership isn't just a marketing and networking tool. It requires a local plan to boost global trade.

Savannah Area Courts Major Warehouse
Savannah-area officials are working to attract another big warehouse. Not much is known about the potential new company and nothing is finalized. But, industry officials say, the area is courting a 1.4 million square-foot distribution center in Pooler.
