Now that the playoffs are upon us, we are switching things up on the Score 44. We are still honoring all of the outstanding seniors from the 2010 season, but we will weigh playoff performances into our list for the next few editions.
No one saw Whitewater’s 21-14 upset over top ranked Northside-Warner Robins coming, except maybe the Wildcats themselves.
“Nobody thought we could do it,” quarterback Renaldo Jenkins said. “All week at practice we just kept working hard, we believed in ourselves.”
Grady clinched the Region 5-AAA title last Friday night, beating Cedar Grove 17-6 for its eighth consecutive win. The Grey Knights (9-1, 6-0 5A-AAA) finished a perfect 9-0 in region competition and held seven of their nine 5-AAA opponents to six points or fewer.
Kennesaw State students this week are voting on whether to approve football for their school. It comes as school officials admit it’s a tough time to ask students for fee increases to support athletic programs.
It’s crunch time. Just ask any high school football team that’s still playing. The playoffs begin statewide on Nov. 12 and, as always, they are sure to entertain and surprise onlookers. Here are a few teams to watch for as the second season gets underway.
In the last regular season edition of the 44, there are two new members! Kyle Harris of Pepperell and Christian Reeves of ELCA have entered the fray while LaMichael Fanning and Akeem Hunt were left out.

After the final weekend of regular season play, several changes were made in the state rankings. Last weekend, many teams played region play-ins, or games in which region titles and playoff spots were decided. Consequently, there have been quite a few changes in the rankings.
