The Milton boy's basketball team took on Fla. powerhouse Winter Park at Centennial High School Friday night, in the 3rd Annual Hoops In Overdrive Shoot-Out.
Milton (11-2) beat Winter Park (10-3) 75-60 in a game featuring several of the top players in the country.
After a full day of basketball at Centennial, two teams stood out for their play. And one of them was the host school.
Lovejoy, the No. 2 squad in Class 4A, was upset by Carver-Montgomery, the No. 7 team in Alabama’s highest classification, in a 57-45 affair.
A true basketball smorgasbord takes place over the next three days at Centennial High School in Roswell as 27 teams will take part in the event. One of the most highly anticipated games is Class 5A No. 2 Milton against Winter Park (Fla) on Friday.
On a cold and misty day in DeKalb County’s Hallford Stadium, the East All-Stars defeated their West counterparts 13-0 in the DeKalb Senior All-Star Game. The game was played by senior stars from several DeKalb County public high schools, with St. Pius the only private school taking part.
The high school football state championships took place last week, but that did mean the season was over. Once the championship games concluded, all-star games took place in the metro Atlanta area and McEachern hosted the Cobb Senior Bowl for the third year in a row.
Wednesday’s GPB Sports Central XL was perhaps the biggest and best show of the entire year as four championship coaches appeared just days after winning a GHSA football state championship to discuss the games and their teams.
Clinch County captured its fifth state title with a 24-14 win over Savannah Christian in the Class A championship game. The Panthers from Homerville sealed the deal with about six minutes left in the game by picking off a pass and immediately capitalizing for the game’s final touchdown.
