Republican state lawmakers approved maps that drew the Congressman out of his district. Barrow says, the GOP majority put politics over population in drawing political boundaries. The new map puts Barrow's home -- heavily Democratic Savannah in the neighboring 1st District.

Georgia legislators are wrapping up their work redrawing the state's political boundaries. Redistricting is expected to be completed on Wednesday as the state Senate votes on a new congressional map that adds a 14th district in northeast Georgia. The House has already approved the map.

The Georgia Senate redistricting committee has approved proposed changes to congressional districts. The plan passed by a 10-3 vote Tuesday and is expected to head to the Senate floor on Wednesday, bringing a speedy end to the Legislature's main business during the special session which began Aug. 15.

The state legislature will wrap up the special redistricting session this week. Watchdog groups say the process has been somewhat more transparent this time. But the groups are still pushing for an independent redistricting commission.
