The state school superintendent leads both the Department of Education and the state’s board of education. Those departments develop school curriculums and handle all business dealings of the state’s education system.
The Department of Education was created in 1870. It consists of five divisions: Curriculum & Instruction, Finance & Business, Technology & Media, Policy & External Affairs, and Teacher & Student Support. The DOE publishes an annual “report card” with student and teacher demographic information as well as assessment results.
