On the final day of 2011 GHSA basketball, a total of six state titles were handed out. Unlike Friday there were no upsets, and most of the games were one-sided. In the Class AAA boys state title game, Columbia pulled away from Butler in the fourth quarter to win their second consecutive championship by a score of 56-37.

“Revenge is a dish best served cold” is an oft-used old saying. The Norcross Blue Devils agree. After being eliminated by Milton in last year’s Class 5A quarterfinals in a controversial ending, the Blue Devils had a shot Friday night to even the score. And they did with a shocking 59-55 upset of the state’s No. 1 team.

In eight semifinal games played on Thursday in Macon and Gwinnett, the winner of each game calls metro Atlanta home. Meanwhile, six teams from outside the metro area saw their seasons come to an end. In Class AA, Buford and GAC flexed their hoops muscles as each school qualified boys and girls teams into the finals.

Tonight at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton, Buford pulled what could be called the upset of the GHSA boys state basketball tournament.The Wolves took down perennial power South Atlanta, which had been ranked No. 1 in Class AA for much of the season.
