Licenses for more than 3,500 registered nurses have been placed on hold at the Secretary of State’s office. A spokesman said the licenses have been placed on hold because state officials have yet to receive documents necessary to renew them.

Georgia College & State University plans to begin offering its first doctoral degree program in May. The school in Milledgeville on Wednesday announced that the doctor of nursing program will admit up to 12 nursing professionals.

Mercer University's nursing program has been given $430,000 in federal grants to do more nursing training and help increase the number of nursing faculty. The private Georgia college received a $413,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for a loan program aimed at helping registered nurses get a graduate education so they can teach.
