Advocates for endangered whales want officials to extend ship speed limits. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration started enforcing ship speed rules five-years-ago. And since then no whales have died from ship strikes.
A new 2.5 mile whitewater rafting course will officially open to the public next Saturday in Columbus. The project has been in the works for several years and required that crews remove two historic dams. Whitewater Columbus cost about $25 million. The City of Columbus pitched in $5 million and the rest of the money came from grants and private donors.
A French operated research schooner was scheduled to stop in Savannah Friday. The vessel Tara has been traveling for more than two years studying marine plankton. It's the first attempt to make a global study of the basic building block of the marine ecosystem.
