One state lawmaker is taking aim at Native American groups who want control over Georgia land. The bill comes about because of concerns over casino gambling. Brunswick State Senator William Ligon has proposed a bill that would require Native Americans to get a two-thirds majority in the legislature before Georgia gives its consent to new tribal lands.
A band of Oklahoma-based Creek Indians wants to move to Georgia. Members of the Kialegee tribe are asking US Indian Affairs officials to declare part of St. Simons Island Georgia's first federally-approved indian reservation. Some local officials would welcome local development as long as it doesn't mean gambling.
