Microbrewers have been lobbying state legislators to loosen regulations that some say are stifling their industry, but it seems lawmakers aren’t interested in changing rules that have been around since the end of Prohibition.
The Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission will consider a rezoning application Monday afternoon from Macon Beer Co. The request would allow the company to develop a microbrewery in a 7,600-square-foot building in downtown.
Athens microbrewery Terrapin is selling a stake of the company to a division of beer giant Miller Coors. The deal will allow Terrapin to double its production capacity. The move comes as craft alcohol production is on the rise in Georgia.
