Memorial services will be held Wednesday for 27-year-old Sarah Jones, who died last Thursday during a movie shoot outside Savannah. Jones was a second camera assistant on the film “Midnight Rider,” a biopic about Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band.
Savannah economic development officials are considering a public-private partnership to build a new film studio. The soundstage would compliment existing studios and be large enough to attract the type of digitial media projects that often bypass Savannah. City officials say, the film, TV digital media industry last year had a nearly $10 million economic impact in Savannah.
Georgia's film industry is booming and some industry experts say that is proof enough that film tax credits are working. A committee of state lawmakers is reviewing all of Georgia's tax code and is expected to recommend sweeping changes in the upcoming legislative session. On the chopping block could be dozens of tax breaks that cost the state money and don't produce jobs.
