The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles Monday will hear from supporters and opponents of Troy Davis' execution. The state is set to put the condemned prisoner to death on Wednesday for the 1989 fatal shooting of Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail. A UGA Law School professor says, there's too much doubt in Davis' case to carry out an irreversible sentence.

Death penalty experts say, last week's videotaped execution of a condemned Georgia inmate could lead to a flurry of new legals moves seeking more public access to secretive death chambers. Thursday's lethal injection of Andrew Grant DeYoung for the 1993 murders of his parents and sister is believed to be the first videtaped execution in this country since 1992.

The attorney general's office is seeking to halt the video recording of a Georgia execution scheduled for Thursday. State prosecutors are asking a state judge in Butts County for permission to appeal her ruling allowing the video recording to the Georgia Supreme Court. The state's top court on Wednesday had let the lower court's ruling stand, citing a procedural error by the state.

A federal judge has rejected a request for a stay of execution by a Georgia inmate claiming the state's plan to use a new lethal injection drug would cause him needless pain and suffering. Wednesday's ruling by U.S. District Judge Steve Jones allows the execution of Andrew DeYoung to go forward, although his attorneys are expected to appeal.

A Georgia man convicted of killing an elderly Savannah woman more than three decades ago has been executed by state corrections officials. Roy Willard Blankenship was put to death by lethal injection Thursday night at the state prison in Jackson after state and federal courts turned down his appeals. The 56-year-old was pronounced dead at 8:37 p.m.

A Fulton County judge has temporarily halted the execution of an inmate while she considers his challenge to Georgia's recent switch to a new legal injection drug. Roy Willard Blankenship was to be executed Thursday for the 1978 murder of a Savannah woman. It would be the first in Georgia using pentobarbital as part of its three-drug combination.

A judge has ordered the execution of a Georgia death row inmate who was convicted of the 1978 slaying of an elderly woman in Savannah. The execution would be carried-out with a new three-drug cocktail.
