A few dozen people are riding bicycles from coastal Georgia to the nation's capital to raise awareness and money for groups supporting police officers killed in the line of duty. Organizers expect more riders to join the group along the route, with about 350 cyclists peddling into Washington on the final leg May 12.
Eight Georgia police, sheriff’s and corrections officers died on duty in 2012, down from 10 last year and mirroring a 23 percent drop nationwide. But only Texas saw more officer fatalities this year.
