The Georgia Supreme Court hears arguments Monday from former auto workers who say Kia didn’t hire them to work at its West Point plant because the workers are union members. The workers are suing Kia and the state for access to records from the state’s QuickStart program, which screened and hired workers for the plant.

Some public school workers employed by private companies say, they got a nasty surprise a few weeks ago. State labor officials last year proposed eliminating a policy that allowed such workers to collect jobless benefits over the summer. The workers say, they didn't find out about the change until recently. Union officials say, the workers now face months without income.

Georgia Sen. Johnny Isakson is trying to undo a National Labor Relations Board decision allowing unions to organize just a handful of workers at a business. He and 28 co-sponsors have introduced a bill to reverse the decision, which would allow different employee groups to organize as different collective bargaining units.

Georgia sends $1.1 billion in exports to Columbia, Korea and Panama. Republicans and some business groups say, those exports stand to rise now that Congress has approved trade deals lowering tariffs on the nations. Georgia chemicals, machines and transportation equipment are among the items that could be the most boosted by lower tariffs. But some labor unions are skeptical.
