Georgia's Congressional delegation could gain a subcommittee chairmanship if Republicans take control of the US House next week. Savannah Republican Jack Kingston says, he's waiting until after the election to think about the likelihood of his wielding the gavel of the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee after a GOP takeover.
The head of the Georgia Ports Authority says, Georgia won't be able to finish a critical harbor deepening project in time for an expansion at the Panama Canal. Larger ships will be sailing through the canal in 2014 and ports officials wanted Savannah's harbor deepened to accomodate larger ships before then.
US Representative Jack Kingston wants to lower the drinking age for men and women serving in the military. The Republican, who represents Georgia’s 1st Congressional district that spans Savannah to Valdosta, is co-sponsoring a bill. It would allow service members age 18 and up to buy beer or wine on base if it’s consumed on-site.
U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss wants to set aside $1 million dollars in the Senate transportation bill to expand a highway in south Georgia. Proponents of the project to expand State Route 133 hope Chambliss’ request will push the Senate to work the funding into legislation this year.
