A federal grand jury has indicted state Rep. Tyrone Brooks over allegations claiming he misappropriated more than $1 million in charitable funds. Brooks, a Democrat from Atlanta, was charged Thursday with 30 counts of mail fraud, wire fraud and false tax returns.

A federal grand jury has indicted state Rep. Tyrone Brooks over allegations claiming he misappropriated more than $1 million in charitable funds. Brooks, a Democrat from Atlanta, was charged Thursday with 30 counts of mail fraud, wire fraud and false tax returns. The allegations involve Brooks' relationship with Universal Humanities, a charity he founded in 1990, and the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials.

The Georgia Attorney General's office says a former state department of public health employee is being indicted for lying on her job application. A seven-count indictment charges Donna Alexander with making false statements. Each count carries a maximum five-year prison sentence and a fine of $1,000.

A federal grand jury has indicted four people in a 2009 salmonella outbreak linked to a Georgia peanut processing plant. The indictment unsealed Wednesday in federal court in Georgia charges four employees with Virginia-based Peanut Corp. of America.

Gov. Nathan Deal has announced that he will not appoint a panel to consider the suspension of Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill. Hill has been indicted on 32 felony charges stemming from a prior term he served as sheriff from 2005 to 2008. He maintains that the charges are politically motivated.

Federal prosecutors say the owners of a Savannah-based casino boat owe the government nearly $7 million earned from illegal gambling in state waters off Georgia and South Carolina. An indictment unsealed Monday in U.S. District Court charges the general manager of Diamond Casino and two of his boat captains with operating an illegal gambling business.

A judge has thrown out a 31-count indictment against former Cobb EMC chief Dwight Brown. Superior Court Judge Robert Flournoy III tossed the indictment in Tuesday because it was handed down in a courtroom that was not open to the public, as required by law.
