One Georgia lawmaker believes the state is missing out on millions of dollars in potential tax revenue this Independence Day. Senator Jeff Mullis, R–Chickamauga, proposed legislation this year that would legalize the sale of fireworks in Georgia. The bill did not make it past the Senate, but Mullis said he plans to pick the issue up again during the 2014 session.
As counties across the state celebrate Independence Day with professional fireworks displays, local police are on the lookout for people setting off illegal fireworks. But law enforcement officials say the ban can be tough to enforce.
