Georgia lawmakers are debating which changes they want to make to the state's gun laws as the General Assembly's annual session heads toward a close. A committee of House lawmakers debated Wednesday on the merits of differing legislative packages from two gun owners groups.
A gun rights organization has challenged ordinances in the west Georgia city of Carrolton and in Carroll County which it says unfairly restrict the right to carry weapons. Handwritten letters, dated Friday, were delivered to officials with the county and city governments.
Atlanta will not fight laws allowing permitted gun owners to carry into unsecured areas of Hartsfield- Jackson International Airport. A state law passed earlier this year allows weapons in curbside areas. But the measure was met by opposition from Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.
