The Supreme Court won't overturn a Georgia law banning firearms in churches and other places of worship. The high court on Monday refused to hear an appeal from GeorgiaCarry.org, which wanted the justices to overturn a lower court decision upholding Georgia's law banning guns in churches and other places of worship.

Gun rights group GeorgiaCarry.org wants a U.S. appeals court to overturn a state ban on guns in places of worship. The sides made their cases to a federal appeals court last week.

A federal appeals court is set to consider whether Georgia's ban on guns in places of worship is constitutional. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta will hear arguments Thursday on whether the 2010 law violates the First Amendment's religious freedom protections. The challenge was brought by GeorgiaCarry.org. The gun rights group maintains that religious institutions should be allowed to decide whether to allow firearms inside.
