Jekyll Island authorities say they don't need legislative approval to enact a big change in the state-run park. Officials want to limit how many acres developers can build on there. Right now, state law says 65% of land on the island must remain natural.

Georgia's medium-sized cities aren't entirely on their own when it comes to enrollment help under the Affordable Care Act. Federal health navigator grants went to organizations based either in Metro Atlanta or in Georgia's smallest communities. Places in the middle, such as Savannah and Columbus, weren't part of the recent award.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley met on the Savannah River on Wednesday. The two executives and a host of officials from both states met to discuss water issues. But the only agreement to come from the meeting concerns drought.

Vice President Joe Biden brought a sense of urgency to Savannah on Monday. The Vice President was in the coastal city to push for Congressional funding for the $600 million Savannah Harbor Expansion Project. Georgia has been seeking to deepen the harbor for 17 years.

US Army Under Secretary Joseph Westfal became the latest Obama administration official to voice support for a plan to deepen the port of Savannah yesterday. Westfal toured the port on a two-day trip to the the Georgia coast.

Medient Studios broke gound Thursday on what company officials are calling the nation's largest movie studio. The company plans to build a $90 million facility near Savannah in Effingham County. CEO Manu Kumaran says his business model is to change the world of movie-making.

Hundreds of Savannah State University students re-enacted events from the March on Washington Wednesday. They carried signs demanding equal rights, sang protest songs and re-staged Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream Speech." It was one of several events in Savannah marking the march's 50th anniversary.

Many Georgians now in positions of power attended the 1963 March on Washington 50 years ago today. Their memories are as diverse as they are. In Savannah, Mayor Edna Jackson sees a direct link between the march and what she now does as her daily job.
