Gov. Nathan Deal's office is looking for Brunswick residents willing to take the place of a city commissioner who has been suspended. Deal must appoint someone to fill the post of Brunswick Commissioner James Brooks, who has been suspended while he awaits trial on charges of racketeering and violating his oath of office.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has ordered the Department of Natural Resources to return Bibles that were removed from cabins and lodges at state parks. In a statement Wednesday, Deal said the state isn't violating any laws by having the Bibles in the cabins and lodge rooms.

Georgia's state revenues increased 13 percent in April, compared with the same month a year ago. That makes for an overall 6 percent increase for fiscal year 2013. Gov. Nathan Deal said Wednesday that net revenue collections have so far totaled $14.1 billion for an increase of $808 million compared to the same point last year.

Gov. Nathan Deal has signed a bill to standardize annual evaluations for Georgia teachers and principals based, in part, on student performance. Deal signed the legislation without comment on Tuesday, which is the last day for bill signings.

Gov. Nathan Deal is expected to sign a bill Wednesday that would bring major changes to child care centers across Georgia designed to improve child safety. Legislation passed by the General Assembly calls for every employee of licensed child care facilities to undergo a comprehensive, fingerprint-based background check.

Governor Deal on Wednesday signed a bill that’s intended to fix some unintended consequences of the state’s 2011 crackdown on illegal immigration. The measure also prohibits people here illegally from using their passports for identification.
