A bill headed to Gov. Nathan Deal for his signature would create uniform rules for cities and counties setting up vacant property registries. The state Senate passed the bill Monday. Supporters say the measure will target owners of neglected properties that invite vandalism and lower home values.
Foreclosures by the nation’s 14 top mortgage services are under review. The office of the Comptroller of the Currency said Tuesday that the banks are sending notices about free reviews to four million people. It’s in response to allegations earlier this year that banks wrongly foreclosed on thousands of people.
Georgia now ranks fourth in the nation for home foreclosures, rising two percent in August. But over the past year, there's been a downward trend in Georgia foreclosures. New numbers from RealtyTrac show Georgia had more than 11,000 foreclosure filings in August. Most came in metro Atlanta counties.
Georgia foreclosures were up in July despite a national downward trend. July foreclosures across the country dropped 7% from June to a four-year low. But in Georgia, they jumped 18%. One expert says, Georgia could be on the leading edge of a forclosure ramp-up after a temporary lull.
A new report by the National Homebuilding Association grading industry confidence shows the South as the only region with signs of an upward trend. But that trend may be hard to find in the Georgia homebuilding industry.
