Sales of foreclosed homes accounted for nearly half of all home sales in Georgia during the first three months of the year. That’s according to a report that found foreclosures are on the rise following a moratorium last year.

Foreclosure fraud would be a crime under a bill passed unanimously in the state Senate Wednesday. Georgia law currently criminalizes fraud during the mortgage process, but not during a foreclosure.

Georgia’s attorney general, Sam Olens, announced a $25 billion federal settlement Thursday with the nation's five largest mortgage servicers. The deal sets stricter rules governing mortgages.
