Southwest Airlines will soon cut more AirTran routes this fall as it transforms AirTran's hub into a Southwest operation. Southwest, which bought Orlando-based AirTran and its Atlanta hub in 2011, started its own Atlanta flights last year and has been gradually expanding them as it absorbs AirTran operations and planes.
A Florida-based airline has announced that it is pulling out of the Macon market before its planned flights from the central Georgia city to Atlanta's airport had started. Fort Lauderdale-based Sun Air International told Georgia transportation officials that challenges with pilot recruiting and training and establishing maintenance bases contributed to its decision.
Not even three months since landing in Savannah, Vision Airlines is leaving the market. Savannah airport officials never really saw the regional carrier as a good fit. Vision offered flights three times a week to Destin/Fort Walton Beach for a total of 90 seats of weekly service.
Delta Air Lines reports it turned a profit in its third quarter, and company officials say they expect more of the same for the final three months this year. And Delta was joined by two other carriers, US Airways and American, also reporting positive growth.
