The state education department is urging Georgia school officials to evaluate the potential threat posed by carbon monoxide after lethal levels of the gas were found in an Atlanta elementary school, where more than 40 children and some adults were sent to hospitals.

Students from an Atlanta elementary school where potentially deadly carbon monoxide seeped into the air will continue attending classes at a middle school about three miles away. Fire officials say Finch Elementary School will not reopen until a deficient boiler system is inspected and certified.
