Indicted DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis wants the public corruption case against him dismissed. In court filings this week, Ellis maintains that a special grand jury lacked the authority to pursue allegations of theft, extortion and conspiracy against Ellis. Ellis' lawyers also claim that DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James did not provide their defendant with required notice of the indictment.
A Georgia sheriff has taken office with the start of the new year, despite facing a felony indictment. Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill took office on New Year's Day, reclaiming the office he lost in 2008.
