Coming off a dominant showing at the Gwinnett County Championships, the Brookwood boys at least ran into some competition at last Saturday’s Atlanta Classic, hosted by Chapel Hill High School.

Brookwood turned in dominant performances at the Gwinnett County Championships, hosted last Saturday at Peachtree Ridge. On the boys side, Brookwood placed six runners in the top 10 and compiled an incredibly low score of 26 points, 70 clear of second-place Peachtree Ridge.

First Presbyterian star Grace Tinkey continued to tear up the cross country trails as she paid a visit to Wesleyan last Saturday. Tinkey sprinted away from the rest of the field in 17:45, almost two minutes faster than any other runner.

Alexander High School hosted the annual Bob Blastow Early Bird last Saturday and the Lakeside-Evans boys put on a show. All five Panther point-scorers finished in the Top 16 individually and all five ran faster than 16:30.

Westminster’s boys and girls swept the Class AA cross country titles last Saturday at Carrollton. The boys placed all seven of their runners in the Top 15, including Tyler Cooke in fourth, Jordan Flowers in eighth, and John Lambert in 10th. Impressive grouping saw all seven Wildcats cross the line in a span of 17 seconds, from 17:14 to 17:31. Lovett’s Parker Whitlock came in third place overall in 17:04.

The Region 6, Class 4A cross country meet was held Saturday at Marist High School. The top four teams from each division and the top 10 individual runners go on to the state meet, so a huge opportunity was at stake. John Ewing of Lakeside DeKalb edged out James Dwyer of Dunwoody and Matthew Weber of Marist with a time of 16:42 to win the varsity boys race. Marist, Lakeside-DeKalb, Dunwoody, and Southwest DeKalb all qualified in the boys division for the state meet.
