Power4Georgians spokesman Dean Alford said Thursday that the Denver-based Taylor Energy Fund LLC has formally joined the project to build Plant Washington near Sandersville.

A coalition of Electric Membership Cooperatives is pulling out of Plant Ben Hill in South Georgia. However, the coalition has reached an agreement with their environmental group opponents on Plant Washington in Middle Georgia. Both plants have been a font of litigation since their inception.

Electric cooperative Cobb EMC has decided to end its involvement in development of the proposed Plant Washington coal plant near Sandersville. The Marietta-based co-op has contributed $13 million toward the project thus far.

LS Power will not build a plant in Early County. The decision is part of an agreement with environmental groups. Two additional plants are still planned for Georgia.

The Longleaf Power Plant in Early County was first proposed in 2001. In November the Environmental Protection Agency is expected to issue tighter regulations on air pollution.

A judge has faulted the permitting of a proposed coal-fired power plant in rural Georgia over its use of water. The judge said environmental regulators did not follow proper rules when it gave Power4Georgians LLC permission to withdraw water from the Oconee River.
