New data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Dalton lost more jobs IN THE PAST YEAR than any other U.S. metropolitan area. Despite the loss of 46 hundred jobs, local officials say they are turning things around.

Savannah business leaders have made support for a little-known state agency one of their legislative priorities for the next legislative session. A $1.3 million project for Herty Advanced Materials Development Center was the area's only specific funding request this year aside from Savannah harbor expansion. The agency is a high-tech research firm helping materials manufacturers.

One of northwest Georgia's largest carpet companies has announced that it will close a manufacturing facility in Dalton, known for decades as the nation's carpet capital. The Daily Citizen reports that the closing of Shaw's plant on Riverbend Drive will be in the next 60 days, resulting in 270 layoffs.
