Authorities have pulled the body of a 17-year-old boy from a reservoir in northwest Georgia. Cherokee County Sheriff's spokesman Tim Cavender says the body of the unidentified boy was pulled from the Hickory Log Reservoir in Canton Wednesday afternoon.
The police chief of a north Georgia town has resigned after a scathing report found his department violated its policies while investigating the disappearance of a 7-year-old girl whose body was found days later in a trash compactor at her apartment complex. Also, the man who admitted killing the girl apparently killed himself in his prison cell Thursday.
A 20-year-old maintenance worker charged with murder is in isolation at the north Georgia jail where he's being held without bond in the beating death of 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera. Ryan Brunn, who lived and worked at the apartment complex, made his first appearance in Cherokee County Superior Court on Thursday wearing an orange jumpsuit and bullet-proof vest.
Federal banking regulators want former officials of Atlanta-based Silverton Bank to pay $71 million in damages following Georgia's largest bank failure. Silverton went belly up two years ago. Now, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation alleges, former bank officials followed lax lending policies and bought lavish airplanes and posh buildings while their bank verged on collapse.
