An airman enlisted in the Georgia Air National Guard is being awarded a medal for showing extraordinary leadership in Afghanistan. He will receive the Bronze Start during a ceremony Friday at Robins Air Force Base.

Robins Air Force Base officials say 1st Lt. Brian Johnson is scheduled to be awarded a Bronze Star medal during a ceremony Friday at the base in middle Georgia. Johnson serves with the base's 78th Medical Group and is being honored for his service as executive officer for a military surgical team in Afghanistan.

Army soldiers from a Georgia-based infantry unit are being decorated for acts of bravery during their first tour in Afghanistan. About 160 Fort Stewart soldiers from B Company of the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment gathered for a medal ceremony Wednesday. A dozen of the troops were awarded Bronze Star medals while two others receive Purple Hearts for being wounded in combat.

The Air Force is honoring a Georgia-based airman credited with preventing a potentially deadly explosion in Afghanistan. Master Sgt. Gene B. Jameson III is scheduled to be awarded the bronze star for valor Thursday at Robins Air Force Base in middle Georgia.
