Authorities say metal thieves are targeting auto batteries in Georgia. Thieves might be taking advantage of a loophole in the state's current law that does not treat batteries as a regulated metal. Albany police say they've seen a spike in car and truck battery thefts, and especially warn large fleet holders to safeguard their equipment.
Henry County sheriff's officials say they're searching for two men accused of stealing $5,000 worth of batteries from parked school buses. Authorities said Tuesday that 21 school bus batteries have been stolen from buses parked at several schools in the district beginning Aug. 4 — the day before school began.
