Black lawmakers, civil rights groups and several associations of educators have formed a coalition against a proposed constitutional amendment on charter schools. The amendment would allow a new state body to select private operators to run taxpayer financed schools.

Challengers in the Republican primary are attempting to unseat two incumbents on Georgia's Public Service Commission, which regulates utilities. Also, Georgia voters will consider several nonbinding questions on Tuesday’s primary ballot, including whether they want to place a cap on lobbyist spending.

The early voting period started Tuesday in Georgia. More than 100 communities are voting on whether to allow retailers to sell alcohol on Sundays, in addition to selecting candidates. People on both sides of the issue are urging voters to go to the ballot box.
