Atlanta police say a web-based information sharing program has changed the way they investigate gang-related crime. Now the department is in discussions with agencies from neighboring jurisdictions about adopting the information sharing program.
Authorities identified a fan who fell more than 60 feet from an upper-level platform at Atlanta's Turner Field as 29-year-old Ronald Homer of Conyers. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office early Tuesday released the man's identity and said an autopsy is planned for Tuesday.
Atlanta police say they've made an arrest in a burglary at baseball great Hank Aaron's Atlanta home. Atlanta police Sgt. Greg Lyon says one suspect was in custody Monday night. He said police anticipate more arrests.
Businesses and residents in Atlanta will soon be required to register any security or burglar alarm systems they have installed. Atlanta police said in a statement that officers responded to 65,000 alarm system calls last year. Police say 95 percent of those were false alarms or were canceled while officers were on their way.
Records show that at least 1,800 criminal cases have been dismissed in a metro Atlanta county court since 2010 because police officers failed to show up in court despite being subpoenaed to testify. Atlanta police say fireworks and static electricity likely led to a package igniting and burning a thrift store worker in Atlanta Tuesday afternoon. Officials say a man working in the store was burned on his hands and arms and was hospitalized with minor injuries.
