Authorities say two firefighters sustained minor injuries while battling a fire that filled part of a terminal at Atlanta's airport with heavy smoke. Atlanta Fire Rescue spokeswoman Janet Ward tells The Associated Press that the early Tuesday morning blaze involved an escalator in Concourse T, filling the area with heavy smoke.
Southwest Airlines is cutting about 300 employees from AirTran Airways' workforce at Atlanta's airport. The 300 ground workers — baggage handlers, ticket counter and gate agents — would end up with jobs in other cities where Southwest operates if they are willing relocate. If not, they will get severance packages and leave the company.
The Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has been designated a LEED gold certified facility. The designation means the 1.2 million square foot facility complies with standards aimed at environmental stewardship and sustainability.
