The University System of Georgia is paying more attention to athletic funding at state schools. Under a new policy approved this week all changes to athletic programs and student fee hikes must be approved by the Board of Regents. Board of Regents spokesman John Millsaps says the new directive fills a gap in oversight.

The Kennesaw State University Athletic department has launched a website to provide details on its new football program. Among other things, the site features fan gear, a recruitment page and a seating plan for Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

In his final state of the university speech Thursday, University of Georgia President Michael Adams called for creating a College of Fine Arts and a School of Marine Science. He also said Georgia needs to expand doctor training and biomedical research by the state’s public universities.

The University of Georgia is reviewing how people are monitored in its athletic facilities as other universities deal with child sex abuse scandals. UGA President Michael Adams said Thursday the review includes the school's processes regarding how people get in and out of athletic facilities on the campus.
