A couple who amassed one of the nation's major private collections of African-American art is donating 100 works to the Georgia Museum of Art in Athens. Larry and Brenda Thompson also will fund a new curatorial position at the museum.
Kennesaw State University has been given a $2 million pledge to build an art museum to house its permanent collection. University officials say retired carpet industry executive Bernard A. Zuckerman made the pledge. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the offer requires the school to raise at least $1 million in the next 10 months.
